launcher fails to download

Launcher Version: newest.

Operating System: windows 7, 64 bit OS

Java Version: 7

Antivirus Program: norton, but its disabled completely

Description of Problem:

i go to the website and download the launcher, but when i start the exe, a "checking launcher version" comes up, the bar stays empty and it goes away after several seconds. i've downloaded JRE 7 and then restarted but it doesn't change anything. it hasn't even made a folder anywhere.

That error is related to your java....its likely that you have the 32bit version....best to go in, uninstall the version you currently have, and then go to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.htm

i installed that one, but i was unaware i needed to uninstall the 32 bit

i will try that - also why jdk? shouldn't i get JRE? right cuz only JDK has the newest java

I wouldn't even say you NEED to...more like sometimes you HAVE to. I have seen it work with both installed, but sometimes i believe it still tries to utilize the 32, so removal is a proven method :)

huh. for some reason it wont let me uninstall some of my java any idea there?

i had like 5 installed, but 2 wont uninstall.

figured it out. uninstalled those and installed what you said but it still doesn't work. what now? :P

Hmm..go to http://mirror.technicpack.net/files/technic-launcher-latest.jar and download the latest jar file, drop that on your desktop, and run that and see what happens. Sometimes you have to run it a few times for it to get its act together lol. ALSO, if you find any error logs, post em up

Sorry have been without net for a few days...

If running the jar doesnt work, you need to tell the computer what program to use when running it... when i right click and select open with, the program shows "Java Platform SE Binary"

If this selection isnt available, try running this free program, JARFIX and see if it will allow you to run it
