Help with starting up a server?

So I used the tekkit.jar and the command that comes with it, but when I join the server with one other friend and either one of us tries to spawn in a modded item the person is forcefully disconnected. Oh and I'm using a mac (Snow Leopard)

You both need to be using Tekkit client.
