Extremely Low TPS Weapon of Mass Destruction

Someone made something like this on our server in the early hours of this morning. The whole server went down to 1TPS or less. After some debugging we found the area that was causing it and had to regen the area using WorldEdit.

I'm currently looking for ways to block this. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

If you have Worldguard installed you can turn off sand and gravel from falling when there isn't a block underneath it
