when i try to download the files for tekkit the launcher gets to a certain point and the says download failed.

I had this problem on WIndows before, but i've fixed it by downloading the linux jar file,

Disable AVG to download the update. You can enable it again after the update completes.

how do open the jar file? because once i download it, it just pops up as an archive in 7-zip and even thpugh i turn my anti virus off the same download problem this problem has been occuring for at least a week and a half someone please help!
