A bug in the nether or is this normal?

So i'm playing tekkit singleplayer and wanted to go to the nether to get glow stone, I spawned in the nether and im just in a room made of out nether rack its pretty large, but thats it. Nothing else, a few ores around, and on the mini map theres a few shapes and stuff but the rest is just nether rack, I dont understand? can anyone help?

Where did you make your overworld portal, near the surface or deep underground? I ended up in a cave like that the first time I went to the nether in minecraft beta. Not sure if you just need to dig horizontal or generally upwards. But have some dirt ready in case you hit lava.

you should really play Technic when doing single player. From what everyone has told me tekkit as issues/bugs in single player

Check your height. If it is 80ish, dig down
