.Exe launcher wont even start, .jar just plays vanilla with a few mods

Launcher Version: .jar is 0.5.4.9 and .exe is 7.2

Operating System: windows 7 64bit

Java Version: 6

Antivirus Program: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Description of Problem:

when I open the .exe launcher, it opens a small dialog box that says "checking launcher version..." and stays open for 2 seconds and closes and does nothing afterwards. .Jar launcher works fine until you actually get into one of your worlds, which is just the same texture pack and worlds as my vanilla minecraft and the only change is that forge and toomanyitems is installed. but tekkit is not installed.
