Launcher has stopped working - every time I try

Launcher Version: 1.0.1.0 ? Latest, just downloaded

Operating System: Win7

Java Version: 7? - new computer, just installed latest

Antivirus Program: Norton Antivirus

Description of Problem:

New computer, trying to set up Minecraft and Tekkit. Installed Java, new download. Technic Launcher downloaded 5 times, later ones after disabling AV. No change.

I double click on Technic Launcher icon, the Windows warning comes up, hit Run - then "TechnicLauncher has stopped working" error appears.

Error Messages:

as above "TechnicLauncher has stopped working"

OK, found Jorcer's solution further down the page - download the Linux/jar version (1.0.1.3) instead - works fine.

I am getting a “Technic Launcher has Stopped Working Error”!

If your launcher is encountering this error, a solution is to download the .jar file from http://www.technicpack.net/download/ (pick the third from the left (Linux/Jar)). If you are using Internet Explorer you will also need to change the file extension (the ending of the file) to .jar instead of .zip. Once you’ve done that, all you need to do is double-click on the file to run the launcher.
