0 Hushful Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 How much RAM do you have and how much do you have allocated to the launcher? Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 I have 6gb ram and im not sure how much is allocated how do I find out?? Quote
0 Hushful Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 There is an option tab in the launcher, it allows you to choose what build you use and how much RAM to allocate. Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted October 31, 2012 Author Posted October 31, 2012 it was on 1gb but ive just upped it to 1536mb thts the highest I can go Quote
0 Hushful Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 Run it with that and see how it goes. Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 ok ive ran that for a while and it hasn't done the error screen for the entire time but the game is still very laggy and on this pc at 6gb ram would you expect it to? Quote
0 Hushful Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 It's not always about the RAM with Minecraft, it doesn't use it very well. You may not know it, but it is likely running off of your integrated graphics chipset rather than your graphics card if you have one installed. Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 ah I see, well thanks for your help Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 do you have any suggestions to make it run smoothly? Quote
0 Hushful Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Force the program to run through the graphics card (there are instructions in another thread on how to do this). You could always lower the ingame settings or just lower the render distance as that eats alot of FPS, but if you set it to run through the card instead of the onboard, you should see an increase in FPS. 0 MrMayfield Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 do you have a link to the post as I cant seem to find them? Quote
0 Hushful Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 It is in the control panel for your graphics card and it should have an option to force it to use one or the other. Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 been tryin to find the graphics card settings but cant find them anywhere. sorry to sound stupid but where do I start? Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 standard Intel HD graphics card tht came with it Quote
0 Hushful Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 OK, open up your device manager and under display adapters it should have it listed. Some cards will have an option to go to the settings when you right click on the desktop. I know at least Nvidia does. Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted November 1, 2012 Author Posted November 1, 2012 I currently have the properties of the intel hd 3000 graphics card (yes I found the model) but I don't know where to go next Quote
0 Magister Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 have you checked to make sure you are using 64 bit java? it only allowing 1536mb sounds more like tekkit is using 32bit, also when the game is running f3 to see how much is actually being allocated to tekkit, the settings in the launcher is the maximum size that it will use, and if you have other things running in the background it can end up using far less intel integrated graphics have very few to no options that can generally be modified Quote
0 MrMayfield Posted November 2, 2012 Author Posted November 2, 2012 how do I find out about the 64 bit java? also according to tekkit it has allocated memory of 203mb at 81% so 256mb? Quote
0 Magister Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 you need to close background programs (anything you do not want running or can live without while playing) before starting tekkit and give it a try, firefox is a big one if you use it, since its plugin container tends to swell with time and take alot of resources Quote
0 grepwood Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 If you insist on going with Intel, what you actually can do is try to reduce Minecraft's workload on the GPU by reducing detail, effects and window size of Minecraft. @folks mentioning 64bit Java https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml#Java%20for%2064-bit Here's the link, but I doubt this will help. I used to run Minecraft on Windows with less RAM and with 32bit Java. It worked fine. Quote

I used to run Minecraft on Windows with less RAM and with 32bit Java. It worked fine. 64 bit java will simply allow for setting a higher amount of working memory for java, and as far as running it on windows or non windows i have tried both and have not seem much of a difference in performance, you also have to keep in mind that tekkit has alot more loaded than just normal minecraft the main problem is when the op is running tekkit it only is allocating 256mb which means the rest is allocated to other things and may not be a java problem but simple a system load problem. reducing the gpu load would help get higher fps but would not attribute to an out of memory error, but depending on what the op is using for a video card it could since system ram can be used for extra texture memory if the card does not have much of its own Quote

Here's a better link for 64bit Java for OP: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7u9-downloads-1859576.html Also, I've just started Tekkit with a new map and 1GB allocated to see just how much memory is needed to run Tekkit. System monitor says 760 MB. I hope OP finds this figure useful. Quote
