Hosting Issues with players being disconnected when they login

Hi all,

I hope someone here can provide some details or links to resources to help find my problem.

I have been hosting a tekkit server using a hosting service for 6 months or so. There have been some minor issues but nothing to bad. I decided to host my own server so i could drop the $25 a month payment.

I spent $250 and built a server:

i3 2.7ghz

8gb ram

60gb SSD

Internet: 40MB Download / 5MB Upload

Windows 8 64bit, Java 7 64bit

I setup the 'server', installed tekkit, and installed java. I configured my router with port forwarding and even went as far as adding it as a DMZ device. I started the tekkit server and connected from a PC on my LAN with the tekkit launcher. Success! Everything had gone perfect. I contacted my friends and had them start to connect. Here is where the problems all started. When the login, I see the server log entry that they connected. It sits for a bit and finally when they see loading terrain on their screen they are booted with a general network connectivity type error. I have tried EVERYTHING i can think of. At one point one of my friends was able to connect and stay logged into the server for a while. See the logs below... Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Try running a speed test to see what your actual upload is. Most likely scenario is that you aren't uploading enough of the terrain for the client to load up properly, so it times out and disconnects.

Also I personally wouldn't put any machine in a DMZ... because it opens you up to a whole host of security issues.

Hmmm,

The only other thing I can think of, is take your machine out of the DMZ and just forward the ports you need to. - Reason for this is it's possible your machine is getting flooded with packets due to everything going to your IP will be sent to your machine.

It's pretty unlikely it will make any difference. But other than that I have no suggestions. Other than to make sure that everyone trying to connect downloads a fresh client.

I found the problem. It was something with Windows8. I put Windows 7 on the machine and it works perfect. It has been working for a few days with no problems.

I'm not certain what in windows 8 was causing the issue, but it was for sure windows 8.

Not likely it was Win8 itself (I have been running Win8 Pro for the last 3-4months, 2 of which I home hosted my own Tekkit server.)

If that's the case though, might be a firewall issue.
