Description of Problem:

i can get on the launcher, but when i login and choose a mod,(any mod) it says update failed. i tried the manual, development, and latest builds, but i got the same message, update failed. i looked at the sticky post on the forums, but it didn't help me. i also use norton, which may be a problem, except for the fact it's just there on my computer, and i don't open it or use it at all.

Turn off Norton and redownload. Just because you don't use it doesn't mean it isn't causing problems. Sidenote: If you don't use it you should uninstall it so that it doesn't mess with other things without you knowing.

i got rid of it but it didn't work. i'm just noticing now when all of mods go through the downloading process, they all stop at either 98% or 99% at the final downloading stage, and then say update failed.

Flapjack, if it says bad video card try updating your drivers instead of threadjacking this guys report. Your issue is completely different (and tells you how to solve it).

You have wayyy to many AVs. Make sure you disabled any firewalls you also have, and make sure you redownload the pack.

It is the firewalls provided by Windows that are the problem. Turning them off to download one file that you know is safe will not compromise your computer. Turn them off, download the launcher and the mod packs, then turn them back on.

Hello, I was going to create a separate bug report, but this is the same problem as I am having, as far as I can tell. I've performed the steps of disabling my mse and windows firewall, and re-downloading the launcher, but even with them off, I still encounter the update failed error when minecraft.jar is at 98%. This error does not occur on technic, which I had downloaded a while ago, but on any new modpacks. My apologies if you would rather I had created a new thread.
