GreenWolf13 Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 The GreenWolf Report: Main Thread can be found here. Hello, and welcome to the eighth GreenWolf Report. Today's Report was written by guest reporter Mooseman9, and focuses on ThaumCraft 2. Is it overpowered? If so, which parts? Thaumcraft is a very balanced mod, with the system of Taint and Vis. Thaumcraft takes some time to really get into, and the resources needed to make the items, and vis, makes up for any slightly overpowered items. Some of the ‘power’ tools, (Axe of Flowing, Sword of Zephyr, Pickaxe of the Core) might, in some people’s minds, be overpowered, but in reality, they are balanced, like the mod itself. Is it balanced? Yes, thaumcraft is a balanced mod. The time and resources needed to get the items makes up for any illusion of opness. Once you get the queasetium, you need to research items, and once you get the fragment, you need to research that again. When and if you finally get the theory, It has to get five successes for you to even learn an item and it’s recipe. This, coupled with the time it takes to do all this, and the high possibility of losing the fragments and items, makes it very balanced. What advantages and disadvantages does it have compared to other mods of a similar type? Treecapitator, a mod which many people use, is replaced with the Axe of the Stream in Thaumcraft. The Axe fells trees and any other wooden material, with a chop. This is balanced by the fact that every block it ‘chops’ it loses durability, like a normal axe would. With other mods like Buildcraft and Redpower, a whole system can be set up for Thaumcraft. In my opinion, I think Thaumcraft, like any other mod, should be best used with others. Azanor is working on Thaumcraft 3, which will be the successor to Thaumcraft 2. He plans to include many features in Thaumcraft 3, even more so than what was seen in TC2. Azanor has also changed his stance on modpacks with TC2. His policy is now ‘TC2 is now fair game. Feel free to use it for modpacks.’ He also says that his stance may change, and with TC3, only a select few are going to be able to use it. Special thanks to Mooseman9 for writing this report.
Jorcer Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 While I agree that on its own, Thaumcraft is a very balanced mod, it wasn't really meant to be used in conjunction with other mods. EE and buildcraft make it much too easy IMO.
Mooseman9 Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 I guess I drive away people. Not many have viewed this thread.
