TheFlash Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 For some reason my friend cannot connect to my Tekkit Hamachi Server. Here's the server info. #Minecraft server properties #Sun Nov 18 14:11:38 CST 2012 allow-nether=true level-name=world enable-query=false allow-flight=true server-port==25565 level-type=DEFAULT enable-rcon=false level-seed= server-ip=**.***.***.*** max-build-height=256 spawn-npcs=true white-list=false spawn-animals=true online-mode=true pvp=false difficulty=1 gamemode=0 max-players=5 spawn-monsters=true generate-structures=true view-distance=10 motd=A Minecraft Server
Sirbab Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Why are you using Hamachi and not Tunngle? Tunngle is better in literally every way.

I find port-forwarding superior to both Hamachi and Tunngle personally. TheFlash, would you mind posting a little bit about how you fixed the problem? I would like to know in case someone runs into a similar problem in the future.
Graziservers Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Don't use hamachi. Don't use tungle. Don't portforward. Rent a vps or dedicated host.

How many users do you need before either of those services is worth it though? I would think that it would not be worth it if you are just running a small server. I know that it wouldn't be worth it for me (4 users counting myself). I run mine on a spare machine and have a basic package from Comcast for our Internet connection (20 down, 8 up if I remember right), it works perfectly for us.
Graziservers Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I have a vps paid for life. Also I have a whitelist server with 15 slots through clanslots. I pay about $17 a month and its worth it because running a pc 24/7 (depending on your power supply) will be more than that.
Sirbab Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Shrug, i usually link up with like 5 guys for small games, tunngle works very well for that.

Are you allowed to run other services on the VPS along side the Tekkit server? I use the machine that I run my Tekkit server on for more than just Tekkit. It controls the camera watching my front door, runs Apache, a Terraria server and an SSH server.
Graziservers Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 You can run whatever you want. Legal things... You rent the server I doubt you could run your security system as it is probably over your home network but apache, tekkit, and terraria would all be fine.
