Java 7 downgrade wasn't successful

Question

Launcher Version: 1.0.2.0

Operating System: Mac OSX 10.7.5

Java Version: 6 u37 (I think? This is my suspected problem)

Antivirus Program:

Description of Problem:

So I understand that the newest update of the OSX operating system took away the function to change the running version of Java (which I had been using to run both my Tekkit server and Tekkit itself. Java 7 being needed for the server and Java 6 being needed to launch Tekkit). Sadly, the laptop I use is a shared laptop and someone must have updated it without letting me know, so I couldn't have stopped to to save the function. Anyway, I found this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?? and followed the instructions to bring back my Java 6. Checking the Java site, it says I'm running Java 6. I've also deleted all the Oracle Java 7 files. I've done the best that I can.. does anyone have any input on how I can start playing Tekkit again? Any help would be appreciated.

(I added the most recent log, I honestly don't know what I'm looking at, but for those of you who do, I included it.)

I am having the exact same problem with the same log and I actually rolled back to Java 6 as stated on apple's website "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5559?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US" So we don't have Java 7 the technic launcher just seems to insist on believing we do.

interesting, you seem to be able to speak for the OP... Oh wait, you cant and you are just speculating wildly. If you were to perhaps post a bug report with logs and info, I might be able to help.

You CANNOT install Java 6 on Lion or above as it downloads it from the software update which automatically downloads Java 7 so what you are saying is wrong. The only way is to roll back as suggested on the apple website which when you go to the java website to test it you are greeted with a notification stating you are running on Java SE6 update 37.

I already searched, I can't find nothing and what I did find was you suggesting to use the guide on Apple's website. You cannot install Java 6 alone on Lion you have to have Java 7 & SE6 but apple gives you a guide to disabling Java 7 that obviously is not working.

You posted there to downgrade to Java 6 from Apple. There is only one guide on there you CANNOT download Java 6 for Lion that I know of.

EDIT: I also just removed Java and went to the site to test it, the site tells me I haven't got Java and that it needs to be installed. I install it with the automatic update that comes up on screen. I then visit Java's website again and test it and it tells me I'm running Java SE6 update 37. I can do this again and provide screenshots if you like.

Also even with no Java installed the Technic Launcher logs still seem to insist Java 7 is running

"[01:59:08] [sEVERE]Launcher is starting....

[01:59:19] [sEVERE]Loading Launcher from 'techniclauncher/tekkit'"

The Technic Launcher just doesn't want to recognise that anything other than Java 7 is on the machine.

Right, I am still not seeing the part where I talk about a guide on Apples website. Either way, this conversation is pointless and is simply derailing the thread. Continue it in a PM with me if you must but I won't be continuing it here. AFAIK, the issue is Java 7.

I found a better thread, the path is irrelevant. Java 7 will always default itself to being the main one. You have to force the Technic Launcher to open with Java 6 via the Terminal with a this code

cd Downloads

export JAVA_HOME=/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home

java -jar technic-launcher-latest.jar

This means you have to download the Technic Launcher jar and not use the Mac app for it. Your easiest way is to then turn that terminal code into a command that will open the launcher when double clicked/opened. I believe a thread with this should be posted up as a temporary solution until the launcher is made compatible with Java 7.

I did that and it said "Unable to access jarfile technic-launcher-latest.jar"

What I did to get this it to run was go through these steps: http://themacmob.com/forum/steps-downgrade-java-7-java-6-mountain-lion-14477.html

And then I downloaded the .jar version of the technic launcher. I then deleted all of the base files for the technic launcher. And then I ran these individually in terminal:

cd Downloads

export JAVA_HOME=/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home

java -jar technic-launcher.jar

The reason that it may have seemed that JaiKai7's commands didn't work is because when he wrote "technic-launcher-latest.jar" he just wanted you to insert the name of the latest technic that you had. Make sure that the launcher is still in the Downloads folder. I am not sure if each of these steps is neccisary, but somehow, mine works with the dev build now. I wish everyone the best of luck.
