Launcher Version: 1.0.3.4

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit

Java Version: 6 update 25

Antivirus Program: AVG

Description of Problem:

Technic worked fine until I wanted to allocate more memory to get rid of a lag spike. I went to Options in the launcher and set it to 2 GB. I messed with some other settings as well. Memory is unclear, but I believe I cleared the cache, and set it to a more recent version. Since then I'm unable to play, because I get the error that it failed to update. Reading the stickied thread, I disabled the antivirus program (AVG) and even turned off the firewall, with no success. I also believe I have the correct java version (6). I'm out of things to try, what could the problem be? I'll try to mess with internet connection settings some more, but I'm fearing for it...

Thanks for helping!

This issue is now solved, but the bug remains.

I did not search thoroughly for the solution before posting here (my apologies!), which was posted a while ago somewhere else: http://questions.technicpack.net/4174/update-failed-i-have-tried-minecraft_1-2-5-download?show=4208#a4208

Putting my old minecraft-1.2.5.jar in the cache folder and renaming it to minecraft_1.2.5.jar solved the problem and the launcher updates and works as expected.

So it appears that clearing the cache in the launcher is the source of the problem. I don't know what the exact use is for that button but something seems broken. I hoped that it would remove the memory-heavy game from my cache memory, but apparently it just deletes the contents of a crucial folder... So, if someone absentmindedly clicks that button they can't update anymore. I don't believe that's how it is supposed to be.

Cheers and happy mining!

Might be a good idea.

Just wondering, will something be done about this bug/annoyance? (It's not really a bug as it does exactly what it states - it clears that damned folder...)

I missed the mouse-over text on the Clear Cache button. I now get that it is somewhat similar to the Force Update button in the regular Minecraft launcher, but obviously it is flawed, as you need to manually place the file.

- A total loser (see I read the rules!)
