Friend's game immediately crashes when trying to launch any modpack

My friend has the same exact version of Java as me, but every time he tries to download a modpack and launch it, it immediately closes and re-opens the technic launcher. We're trying to play the 1.12.2 pack, and the first time he launched it everything seemed fine up until it had gone through the 7 loading steps and before it actually put him in the game it closed.
