How to find out which ID's aren't in use

Hi,

i'm trying to get Portal Gun mod working since it is available for forge it shouldn't be a problem. And it isn't- well, beside its id's that are already in use. I tried different id's but they where all already in use. So how can i find out, which id's are unused?
