launcher not getting past 'checking launcher version'

Description of Problem:

my technic laucher is not getting past the bit where it says 'checking launcher version'. ive had it doing this for over an hour and i dont know if this normaly happens or if i have a bug

Its Bitdefender - I'm guessing you have BitDefender Essentials 2013 like I do.

I don't know why (and contacting BitDefender doesn't help either) but for some reason as of Sunday/early Monday BitDefender conflicts with Tekkit. I turned mine off, ran the launcher and there was no problem whatsoever.

Have the same problem with BD. Try going through the .jar. If you want to update the packs you'll have to be in game mode it seems however.

Also I tried adding the launcher exe to the games list but that didn't help in the slightest and neither does game mode. Default keyboard shortcut for game mode is ctl+alt+shift.

I've been having the same problem but the thing is I have Telus security services. Any help there?

No idea - I sent a ticket to BitDefender and they told me to run a repair diagnostic that didnt work. I've used the .jar version, but it runs choppy as hell.

So far the only success I've had is toggling BitDefender off while I play.
