Steam engine has coal, lever and conductive pipe, but won't run

What am I doing wrong?

Engine is on the ground, lever right next to it, wooden conductive pipe out the top, coal for fuel.

If its a thermal expansion steam engine, you will also need to feed it with water.

Try posting a screen-shot of your setup so others can see exactly how its setup.
