Can't find lan server

I opened a lan server so me and my bro could play together, for some reason where it says scanning for LAN worlds nothing pops up. I then tried on my other computer (Mac) and it found it but couldn't connect it stayed saying 'Connecting to server' :/ Any ideas?

Try the lan on the same wi-fi network

I Fixed this by turning firewall off on Java SE Binary, Now he still can't connect it says connecting to server then times out. Really beginning to annoy me.
