Adding Mods

I started playing yesterday and I have a question about adding Mods. I was looking threw the mod packs from the launcher when it starts up where it says add Mods. If I wanted to add one of the Mods how do I add it, and will it be a new world or will it be the one I am playing. I have only been playing my world since yesterday so if I have to start over it's not a big loss.

Most of the mods will have detailed instructions for installing, but generally mods just go in the "Mods" folder, yes.

Some mods change the way the world generates, for instance by adding ores or other blocks. For these you need to travel to chunks that have not yet been visited, or simply create a new world.
