Chronotyper trouble

i'm having trouble setting up my automated farm, where exactly do you place the chronotypers?

i tried placing them along the fence line then the animals would just jump on it and out of the enclosure. i tried surrounding it with fences so they couldn't get on it, but the animals would get stuck at the output side somewhere between the fence and the chronotyper or sometimes they'd spawn on top the fence and again just get out.

This setup worked for me with my feeder (albeit I used stone wall). It's possible for the animals to stand on top of the block but in order to get out or on top of the wall/fence you have to jump.
