How many pages of items is supposed to be in the NEI menu?

For me I have this issue where sometimes its 56, sometimes it 19 and sometimes its somewhere in between. It makes no sense. I make sure all the mods are loaded up as well. Sometimes it will show 56 pages loaded up, but then I mouse over a bit and it goes back to 19. I am so confused. How many pages are supposed to be there?

Well it partly depends on your UI size (and if auto, window size) as more space for the UI means less pages.
