How to mine forward, not down?

I am new to this tekkit, but im starting to get it.

Now i just got a question.

Is it possible to mine forward, and not down? im using a simple miner that just mine down, but can you make it mine another direction?

Or maybe with another tool?

Not sure exactly what you are asking, but I don't believe there are any automatic mining machines that you can point sideways, with the exception of mining turtles, which don't really have a direction.

I believe he is talking about Buildcraft mining wells. So in that case you can't make them mine forward. But, I recommend making a Mining Turtle and fueling it up and then typing "excavate 10" in it. It mines like a quarry.

Yes, use Steve's carts with a drill, track layer, chest, and hull/shields for lava.

I don't believe that was what he was asking, he said he wanted to use his simple miner that is pointing down (buildcraft?) as a horizontal mining tool, but yes, that is another option.
