Problems with tool station.

I put my pickaxe in the tool part of the modify/repair area and put a diamond in the top box but nothing pops up in the right, what am I doing wrong?

Already has a diamond on it? It's not a Tinkers Construct pickaxe? Try the bottom box?

Yeah wasnt a TC tool lol.

I've heard that using paper for the tool binding or any of the three sword guards gives 1 extra upgrade without any ill effect. Some other materials may have their own effect though.
