i will try to load up tekkit classic but it will always fail and not open

Version 3.1.3 is naturally buggy. Try 3.1.2 which is stable.

If the above doesn't work. On the left of the modpack, under tekkitclassic, there is a gear icon. Click the gear icon, then hit reset pack, then click yes. Afterwards, click the play button.
