I load up the launcher, choose Attack of the B-Team and the launcher dissapeares and then re-appeares.

Looks like either a very old or unusual graphics card or not having the drivers up to date, could be damage to windows - it is WinXP they're running on so it's unlikely to be a new installation - any of those things could be it.

 

People having this symptom (launcher opens then closes) usually need to update java in the current version.
