Can Somebody Please Help?

So my friend and I decided we wanted to try and play on a Hexxit server. So, I created a server (I have portfowarded, allowed it in the firewall, etc.) and it DOES let him connect whenever i start up the server with "minecraft_server.jar", however no mods work when i launch it from here, so its pointless. Now whenever i launch the server from the "launch.bat" the mods work nice and dandy, but my friend is unable to join "Can't reach server". I have googled this problem, but havent found any problem solving solutions, so i decided to post it here. If you can help it would be much appreciated!
