can't craft a wrench

i have an issue where i try to craft a wrench for my mekanism machines it just appears as a steel plate, probably because the steel plate's recipe requires 4 steel ingots and no pattern. please help

Isn't that crafted using 2 steel for the handle and 2 iron for the prongs ? Looks like that is your problem.

the recipe requires both 4 steel, not iron, but now I realized it required 4 steel ingots from 2 different mods. not sure if it was intended to do but thanks for reminding
