  1. I have, they are broken, and it is unprofessional I fully agree. As for the empty promises, I agree on that too, people will get mad if they aren't fulfilled. But this is also a two way street. Doing little will have people mad, and they will ask for ETA's on mods. Doing too much (empty promises, gamebreaking bugs) will get people mad, and people will still ask for ETA's. It's all about finding the sweet spot in between. I mean, I'm an electrician and I happily come with suggestions to different things while i'm at my customers. If I'm there to fit a lamp for them I don't just throw the manual in the faces and tell them to shut the fuck up and read instead of asking. Quite the opposite, I'll happily bring in all the catalogs I've got and show them everything they want, and I do that basically every day. Some times I make "empty promises" aswell. Not directly, but as in I promise to be there next week at 11am. Next week at 7am I call them to say I can't show up for whatever reason. Sometimes they get mad, usually not. I'll get there eventually though. Anyway I got alittle offtopic there.. So what are you saying Zenalia? You're completely satisfied with how things are? Theres nothing else you could possibly imagine changed with the technic launcher, the community? I don't care -all- that much about the launcher myself nor the updates really, i'm here for the mods and the easy to use launcher for the most part. I've just been checking in for updates every weekend, aswell as a couple other mods, but find myself left with more questions then information about whats going on. I've noticed the community in its whole isn't really all that friendly here though and after Simpleguys warning that's whats been driving me mainly.
  2. I'm not saying they are better then technic or anything like that. Merely pointing out theres competition, draw inspiration from them, be better! Information and guiding the community is a good, but long, way to go.
  3. Ok I didn't notice that during my 15 minutes there fine. They're still in beta though. However I watched direwolfs review of their launcher, released 10th of november (this year woho). And just there you can find lots of neat things you can get inspiration from. Gathering all the mods in a neat list, which will take you to their respective news sites, wikis and what not is also a way to give out information on. Theres many ways to do things. Looking at their forum also gives me the idea of activity and sharing. EDIT; The news section does infact have updates from 21sth and 24th november aswell. You just saw the "diaries" part. It sucked anyway though just sayin'.
  4. So basically you expect me, who isn't taking part in the development of the launcher, to come up with ideas on what they should update us on? Come on, I'm merely giving out vague examples. This is their intrest, their product, this is what they do. I can only assume they have some form of method to gather information about what they need to continue their own work, why can't they gather that information and post it to us, making this somewhat of a portal hub with information about their product. It does afterall include, as you say, 40+ mods. Hehehe, I mentioned the Feed the beast thingy earlier. I literally just found it earlier while reading Simpleguys post about Twitter. Ive been there 10 minutes and i've figured out soo much about their plans, things they want to implement and easy ways to gather information and looked at the features they already have. I can literally go on and on about it but I'm not gonna cause it's gainst the rules aswell as I'd prefer to stick to one thing, technicpack. Christ, I'm asking you guys to open your eyes here and just see how things -can- be better.
  5. Ah yes I know you were. But no, I'm merely trying to come with my point of view, or I would call it constructive critizism, although I guess in your view it might be subjective. I'm asking for updates yes, not neccessarily "buuuhuu when is tekkit 1.4 being released", which you are fixated on. I already know the mods in technic launcher is preinstalled, that they don't make the mods, they make the easy to use launcher, their hands are tied behind their backs until the mods are portet, that theres a dev build for 1.4.2 which I can use, that I can install my own mods. Thank you for reading my posts That was sarcasm by the way. Now, let me please copy paste the first lines of my third post ever made on this forum. "What about updating us on what's missing for them to complete. Or if maybe they're looking for substitute mods, or if they wish to add more mods, or add features to the launcher? Forget about ETA's that's not the main point. Is it so much to ask for to include the comunity in their work. We cherish their work alot afterall." And don't fixate on the very first line please.
  6. Well obviously I missed your entire point, I just shoo'd your post away since it wasn't relevant to what Ive been talking about.
  7. What about updating us on what's missing for them to complete. Or if maybe they're looking for substitute mods, or if they wish to add more mods, or add features to the launcher? Forget about ETA's that's not the main point. Is it so much to ask for to include the comunity in their work. We cherish their work alot afterall. There doing a -somewhat- good job with it. Theres now roughly 2 weeks since we got the last real update about tekkit 3 being finalized, then another 2 weeks about the death of forgebukkit. Then theres an amazing 2 and a half month gap to the technic dev build, another month or so to the next update. As for this post I didn't care to check twitter and facebook because I'm not really using any of those. Besides, any updates should be on their own website afterall, especially considering facebook and twitter only has 1/5 of a page dedicated to it on the mainpage. And just by throwing a quick glance at the news section, we have gotten 3 proper updates the last 5 months, going 6 with december. Are you happy with that? And really, there shouldnt be rules against asking for ETA's. Ok there can be, but don't treat the people asking for it with bans, personal attacks, namecalling and by being mean. That's wrong and most definately doesn't help creating a good community. Not forget that it's not proffessional either. Do you enjoy watching people who is using this product, come here to ask for an ETA, only to get banned, when theres on average weeks between every official word? Don't forget they now have a widely used product and supplying everyone with information about it is just common courtesy. They are afterall gaining competition now with "feed-the-beast.com"(Actual link) rising. This is basically indentical to the Technic launcher as far as I know, maybe with a slight variation in the mods it includes. Maybe not reciving as much free PR through yogscast but I'm sure they, or someone else for that matter, can offer significant competition. Not to mention they have Forestry. (I haven't done alot of research about this pack, found it through Direwolf20's twitter) Growing and keeping the happiest community will make or break the success of each of these packs I'm sure. Just like everything else.
  8. Ahh yes that's perfectly doable. But don't you think, say, getting a confirmation that RP is going to be in the pack at all, or better, say, release a non-recommended build where RP isn't a part of the pack. You know, because the amount of other changes could keep aloot of people occupied (aswell as showing eagerness/readiness on their behalf), aswell as always being able to add things later. I know these are rought examples, fully aware that 1)Obviously RP is going to be a part of the pack, 2) Mentioning releasing something is unheard of. (inb4 lots of releases on technic 1.4 ((which by the way, theres so much wrong with)))
  9. Oh I'm sure they're not doing anything they wouldn't be capable of doing in the first place, economically wise. Not to mention whatever gets donated(If they have such a thing) but more likely the deals they have with Akliz, Enjin and the commercials they have on the front page. Also not to forget that the remaining costs are spread out, at least, on the founders of technicpack, assuming it's a tiny circle of friends. In the end though, what do you expect when it turned out to be such a success. Like you said, they didn't have to upgrade their forums nor hosting, but they did it anyway, because they could. If they did it only out of the blizz of success, commiting financial suicide, I guess they had it coming. Just for you Simpleguy; TL;DR : They're not in over their heads. If they are, good job. It's funny how you're trying to play on guilt here. They're not sacrificing alot, or anything in the real world. Again, they're not in over their heads. If they can't do it, they won't do it or get paid to do it. This is their hobby, if the current state of the launcher represent a general picture of how they have always been working, then they are not really doing much more then what they did in the very start when it wasnt as popular. It is the moderating style i'm referring to yes. And I'm not asking for much here, I'm asking for less work on your behalf and for you to be guiding and not banning. This whole thing is a proof to that. Look, take me for instance, Say I came here and complained like I did, pumped out alot of false accusations, being demanding. GUIDE me then. Throw me a link to twitter, tell me to come to IRC to chat, refer me to obvious stickies I should've noticed. Throw in a joke and then try to spread your goal of having a friendly community helping eachother out. Hell, a warning like you did infact give me could be apropriate. What wasnt appropriate however, is the fact your taking it all as a personal offense, calling names and being sarcy. "You're offensive, demanding, and spoiled rotten. That or ignorant, which is no excuse." From the email of yours. Why not just say "Read the forum rules and stickies before posting " Kinda would..
  10. I just made an account because I felt like venting alittle. I've been an avid player of Minecraft, more spesifically the typical "tekkit" mods for ages. At first I added all mods myself but jumped on the tekkit launcher when the name started going around. Mostly because of the less amount played during the time and for the ease it brings. So naturally i've been stalking these forums every so often to check on the updates, or more spesific, lack of. This has to end. It should end. You know what I'm talking about, everyone asks, everyone wants to know, yet many hide behind the "It will come when it comes" statement/rule. Before going on, I'll just add that it's true. It -will- come when it comes. I know, and most other knows, that the people running the tekkit launcher doesn't work the mods themselves, they merely gather them into a package. Which in turn means they have to wait until the modders do what they do best and releases their updated mod. But I'm not here to vent about how the people behind this laucher isn't updating their package. I want to vent about how they communicate to their player base. Because the truth is, they have a big, really big playerbase using their launcher, and they need to/should start acting responsible towards it. All this "It will come when it comes" talk is a two way respect case. We shouldn't pester them with questions about an spesific ETA on the release, it's out of their hands anyway. And they shouldn't be so restrictive to lift the hammer of banning whenever someone does either, or make it sound like it's an personal attack. As I previously stated, they have a huge player base. New clueless people is doomed to ask these questions, guide them, not ban them. The community of such a popular thing like this deserves to be fed regular updates on the progress however. No, I'm not talking about "TEKKIT 4.X WILL BE RELEASED ON DESEMBER 24TH 2012!!!11", I'm talking regular updates such as "We've googled redpower 2, it seems its under work, looking forward to start porting it" and maybe add a list such as "Industrial craft, check. Buildcraft, check, redpower2, awaiting". Or maybe just let us know they've maybe contacted the mod maker to have a chat about it? If you look past the general updates about forums and its changes, the updates we get, which is related to the mods themselves, is weeks apart, we don't know their plans, we don't know if the whole thing will break down tomorrow (extreme). It's worth mentioning that the author of either Buildcraft or Industrialcraft got a major smack in the face by his/her community for lack of response too. We all know this launcher is "Your guys personal work" (I guess), but you really should start appriciating the playerbase and acknowledge it. A community is a community guys, we humbly wish to take part of both the negative and posetive things. Share a word, please. And honestly, I know alot of you guys agree with me, even if you want to keep it a secret. It's almost like I want people to report my post for whatever reason, because I want the moderators/admins to read it and think about it. Have a chat among themselves how they wish to rule this launcher. Currently it feels like your gripping onto it with an iron fist. And quite frankly I think just this topic should have its own thread albeit I guess it wouldn't live long. Edit: So this post earned me this mail; You're offensive, demanding, and spoiled rotten. That or ignorant, which is no excuse. From Mr. Simpleguy It's funny, how trying to be constructive gives such a response from a moderator. You're doing a good job Simpleguy. And looking past the "update" part of my post, taking a closer look at the "Community" part, the email I got and the Edit you did just further proves the point. This isn't a friendly nice community, this is like L4D2. People calling eachother dicks for no reason. Not to mention that the Twitter updates are proving my point of lack of actual informative updates about Tekkit. See if this earnes me a ban because someone can't handle alittle talkback "Ohhh noo..."
