I would ask for permissions for all mods where the dev hasn't made it very clear if you are free to use it or not, follow the devs conditions, and the only licensing you need is permission from the devs and having it work. If your pack is good and solid, and works let me know I like mod packs made by people who don't know what they are doing. Sometimes you see some interesting mods in them. I haven't read this particular forum's rules, I just follow universal rules that every forum has.

Well that isn't my intent to work as flame bait. However I spent a few hours on this with a friend yesterday, but I honestly can't remember every little detail since after working through British, American, Japanese, Canadian, and French laws on this issue your head gets a little sore. So I condensed what I found above. Mind you this is an excellent form of flame bait for someone who is stupid enough to purposely do so. If you find it an issue that much I'm sure it would take me like 3 seconds to edit the posts away.

I feel like someone needs to take some of the existing main stream mods like IC, BC, EE, RP, and MC and get the developers of those mods together to make a unified mod which combines them smoothly and effectively and call it a baseline mod for making mod packs. Because even in my personal packs for my use only I gather those mods nearly all the time since they are just so useful. BTW, anyone seen any good magic based equivalent to Voltz yet? Because Voltz unified one central form of power for technological mods, so something like that for magic would be awesome. If anyone has seen one tell me because I've been looking but can't seem to find one.

It is a common topic of debate, and I always find in most forums everyone is so misinformed it turns into a flame war, so I wanted to post some facts and get some opinions here, hoping most people will avoid making a cyber ass of themselves.

So I was sitting around and talking with a friend and we got talking about how legal game modding was. We looked it up and we came to some weird conclusions on the legality of the situation. From what we can tell modding a game is a grey zone. It turns out that if you crack the game to allow someone to play for free, it's illegal. If you are selling the mod for a profit without licensing from the original game developer, it's illegal. If you mod a console (XBox, Playstation, Nintendo, etc.), it's illegal as of yet since you are circumventing copyrights and T&C on the hardware and firmware to do so in all current consoles. This could change if a modding friendly console was released. If you mod a game without some form of permission from the developer, it's illegal. Looking really illegal, eh? Well turns out that it is only illegal under these conditions. If the game developer gives an open license to mod away it is perfectly legal so long as you stay with in their terms. Which makes sense because the Steam store is filled with mod dedicated sections and many companies encourage modding. So what are your guys opinions? Is modding legal? Illegal? Or just a confusing grey area which really needs some proper laws put in place for it?

This only started today too. I was up all night last night playing.

Exact same issue, the only difference being I use Bell Internet Security Services with Malwarebytes for Anti-Viral. I have tried a few things to fix it which have all failed so I will list them here to save the helpful members of the community sometime: Delete the .technic folder. Redownload the launcher itself from technicpack.net. Changed the setting to use beta launchers instead of stable. Upped the RAM from 1 GB to 3 GB (Which is what I normally use anyways). Deleted launcher and the .technic folder and rebooted my PC before redownloading and reinstalling the technic launcher. Increasing PermGen size (you never know). Yelling at it. Giving it the evil eye. Calling it names. Beating my head off the keyboard. Pretending to give up. Begging it to work. So any suggestions would be great for both of us. Oh and here's a screen shot of what it does.
