  1. Ah, I was mislead. A friend is using 1.8 forge with 1.8.1 Minecraft, and the maker of forge even said he expected no differences between 1.8.1 Forge and 1.8 other then a name change so I assumed it would work. After talking to my friend though I found out his forge minecraft though is running very buggy right now, so it only makes sense that adding another layer of complexity like the Technic launcher would make things even worse. Still, that answers everything nicely, and unless you can somehow tell me when forge 1.8.1 is coming out, I think that takes care of everything! Thanks for the support.
  2. Sorry, here it is. http://www.technicpack.net/modpack/map-nei-inventory-sort.433815/updates Despite the name nothing is inside of it right now other then trying to get Forge to work. I do not know how to set up multiple versions while using dropbox. Edit: Also sounds like the forums need a bit of a hammering as well! Although glad to hear its bugs have been ironed out.
  3. Thanks for the help, but I see to get the same exact error, here is just flat out putting forge universal (1.8-11.14.1.1338) into modpack.jar http://pastebin.com/FJTbCbfL
  4. Sorry for the delay, but thanks for the reply, (You are everywhere on this forum too!) Anyway, I tried entering in the code you provided and ended up with this in my "version.json" file: http://pastebin.com/aBvX2Ny7 Now it gets father then before, but still runs into issues: http://pastebin.com/98AJXggM While it might be some kind of syntax error, I tried to compare it to the barebones pack and it mostly seems right, although I did notice in the barebonespack it seems like you put in more then just the directories you linked to in that forum (Might be misreading though.) Thanks for helping a fool out like this!
  5. A part of me is positive this will sound like a stupid question, but no harm in finding out! I have a modpack I made for vanilla minecraft for use when playing on servers and such (minimap, health bars, inventory sort, etc) and of course due to being designed for "vanilla" it has the impossible trouble of trying to stay up to date. Now forge 1.8 has been in beta for the longest time, but recently came out. I know people who where using the beta and managed to make it work for 1.8.1 with their vanilla client (although have encountered some bugs, but nothing breaking.) With Forge coming officially out I have started trying to put it in my modpack, but have had no luck. These are the steps I take: 1. Get forge .jar universal (version 1299 currently) 2. Rename it into modpack.jar and put in "bin" folder. 3. Update version of modpack to force an update. 4. Crash The log I get makes it sound as if it finds forge with little trouble, but fails to get any farther, here is the (thankfully short) log file. http://pastebin.com/ArJVSf07 When I launch the modded pack it just closes the launcher, then reopens swiftly as expected. This is my largest problem of course, and I highly doubt it is caused by forge being 1.8 since I have heard of many others using it with little trouble, but I have also heard of stranger things causing conflicts. I also have tried putting forge in the mods folder, having it both in modpacks.jar and in the mods folder, and deleting the meta-inf file just in case, and none of which worked of course. If anyone has advice I will gladly try it, and thanks in advance for your time! P.S. If anyone also knows how to get optifine happy now with forge without needing to include the EULA breaking minecraft files please let me know! Hopefully it will be possible now in theory, although this is a much smaller problem.
  6. It is a "vanilla" mod pack, things like enemy health, minimap, optifine, NEI and so on for playing on vanilla servers...... with the wonderful drawback of trying to stay cutting edge for when the servers update of course. As for the reason why optifine wont work, that makes perfect sense now. I had been hoping it was a simple matter of a few files added here and there, I was not aware it was altering things on such a deep level, or the trouble deconstructing it would cause. I suppose here is to hoping that forge 1.8.1 is not long off! I know the guys are plenty busy on it.
  7. I am a touch confused why though, doesn't stuff in "modpack.jar" get injected right into minecraft.jar? Or no longer? Or is it just Optifine being a headache? I am willing to accept that it is not easy to do at all, or even impossible in many ways without using the minecraft.jar (and thus causing trouble.) Just would like to know more about why if at all possible.
  8. I have a brief question, and hope it has just as brief of an answer. I have a mod pack made for use in vanilla servers (focus being of course on the one I play on) and recently the server upgraded to 1.8.1. My problem is that the vanilla optifine installer seems made to just purely inject itself into a install, and unlike 1.7 there is not a forge method of installing it (I am also aware forge is not yet (openly) ready for 1.8.1 yet as well.) So how do I take the unzipped "OptiFine_1.8.1_HD_U_B5.jar" and place it within the drop box folder to have it work for everyone who uses my modpack? The default methods I have used before do not seem to be working now (place it into modpack.jar, place it into mods, do both of those last things together) and rather then trial and error I would rather ask for help from those who know both the laucher and minecraft better then me. Thanks in advance.
  9. Me and friends had a tekkit server running for the past verison and made quite a bit of progress in it. After waiting a little while for the current release to become stable we decided to update, but found out it does not seem to like our old world, since any time we try to join the server gives an "end of stream" error. Now when joining a new world it does work fine, and I am aware it is recommended to use a new world, but is there anyway to just transfer over things from the old to the new? We already lost all progress once before due to stupidity, and I doubt everyone wants to rebuild their bases from scratch. Heck I think they would be happy if we could just set up a way to transfer items alone. As a side note, what is the best method of automatic backups? We found a plugin for the last server, but it made a silly amount and started taking up 1TB+ worth of backups when left to itself.
  10. That would have been useful to find before! The guide I found before was a fair bit more vague on what exact version of optifine to use and I had to go though about 3 different 1.5.1/1.5.2 versions before one would not crash it! Still, thanks again to all who answered. When things get a little more stable with this build I plan to update our server to it as well, very impressed by how quickly it is getting patched.
  11. Thanks for the reply to my question before, and I am very impressed by all the work being done on this mod pack, just a question though, will optifine be mixed in this version? I am sorry if there is a reason I missed why it is being kept out, it just was a small pain in 1.5.2 to get HD textures working, unless I missed something silly.
  12. I am a tad confused, it says that the power suits being removed since there is not a 1.6.4 version being made, but I managed to track down this which claims to work with 1.6.4 Of course I entirely understand that there can likely be something that I am missing, and over all I always look forward to updates! Our server has been running solid with 1.5 and everyone is looking forward to this.
