  1. Hello all, I recently got roped into helping a friend run a server. He's not very technologically inclined but wants to start a server and since I built his computer he asked me to be the server admin. I will be the first to admit that even though I have a lot of moderation experience I'm a little over my head but I've enjoyed the challenge so far. I've got a tekkit home server up and running with the addition of forestry and the portal gun mod as a test with only minor hiccups along the way. Port forwarding and block ID conflict resolution FTW. But he wants to have a dedicated server for us, some friends and maybe a few vetted Internet acquaintances. This is all still in the planning and research stage and I've got two basic questions. ImI'm not sure where we are with finances but I need some info on server hosts, I'm pretty sure a dedicated Minecraft server host service is the way to go but again I have literally no experience in this area. I'm a quick learner but I need a starting point Also I know griefing and lag issues can make or break a server and need some suggestions for mod items and such to disable or restrict to help with this. I have a decent idea of what plug ins to use to help with griefing and protections but as far as disabling or restricting parts of mods go I don't know where to start. It may just be my naivete and I may have to change my mindset since I will very well likely will have to deal with malicious people but I don't play Minecraft with the intention of abusing the system, so to consider what ways others may attempt to do so is a little foreign to me. Other than that, any general tips, tricks, or help is welcome.
  2. InGameName: MapleBar About me: Ive been playing minecraft since just before beta 1.3 and have been playing with the tekkit/technic mods since the full release of minecraft. Ive dropped off occasionally but I always come back. Most recently the whole forestry/SirSengir fiasco kind of left a bad taste in my mouth and I haven't played in a while, but In the past week or so Ive started back up again. Location: Southern California (PST timezone -7 GMT) Why Tekkitia?: Well the biggest reason is forestry but Ive heard a lot of good things about the community here Do you understand troublemaking/rule-breaking/griefing will get you banned/removed? Yeah, Ive never had a problem abiding by server rules. Ive never even been banned except for once from a "yogbox" server for arguing with an admin about the Better-Than-Wolves fiasco (minecraft sure seems to have a lot of "fiascos" now that I think about it)
  3. IGN: MapleBar Reason for wanting to become a member?: I haven't played with tekkit (or minecraft at all) in a good while and Ive heard good things about this server. Will you follow the rules that we have set for this server?: To the best of my ability
  4. I hope you find what you are looking for and I hope the stark reality of a server with no posted guidelines that new people are forced to read dawns on you.
  5. wrong section, wrong format, wrong... something else I'm sure
  6. so basically when the server is laggy, you can take out more stuff than you should be able to? and does anyone know if the memory thing is true? can you not use the trans table again until the balance is righted?
  7. Ive played on a lot of servers where the transmutation table is disabled because there is a dupe bug. In fact I don't think ive played on a big tekkit server that did have the transmutation table enabled. But I play with EE a lot on single player and Ive never experienced it duplicating stuff, if anything I will occasionally get stuff disappearing. I just wanted to know if this is still an issue or if its more of an "EE is overpowered" thing
  8. I just want to say thank you, I know you guys don't hear it enough. I am one of the people lucky enough to understand computers well enough to be able to install mods and install them together by myself. I used to take requests on the MC forums (before I realized what a horrible community ethos they have there) for assembling mods together and editing configs and such to allow them to work together when a block-id conflict or something similar would otherwise have prevented it. Because even though I have my moments where peoples stupidity baffles me, I don't think that just because you don't know how to install a mod doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to enjoy it. And I know what a thankless job it is to help people in situations like this. I truly appreciate everything you guys have done, not just for the players but for minecraft in general.
  9. Re: Could this remove the need for a Technic pack? i liked spore
  10. Re: I will pay you $20 to help me make a tiny IC2 addon any updates? I stumbled upon this post and I find the idea very interesting
  11. I dont want to be a jerk but I am not an idiot, I have fully and accurately described the problem There are no error logs, I simply am unable to connect. When I try it stays at the "Connecting to the server" and stays like that. period. If it helps Using the vanilla launcher to connect to non-tekkit servers works fine. Using technic to connect to non-tekkit servers works fine. Using tekkit I can neither connect to tekkit nor non tekkit servers Also I am unable to select the vanilla option with the launcher it says "Update failed" I don't know if other people have had that problem but i haven't looked into it because if I wanna play vanilla ill just use the vanilla launcher. EDIT: I dont know if it matters but I tried disabling my firewall just in case that was acting up or something but still same problem
  12. Launcher/pack Version:5.4.9 launcher / tekkit 2.1 Operating System:XP 32bit Version of Java:Newest jre7 Description of Problem: cant connect to any server, it just stays on the "Connecting to the server" screen Im not sure what I did but I havent had any problems until recently I get full connection bars but can't actually connect [img width=800] [img width=800]
  13. panasonic RP-DJs400 I have these, they kick 10 kinds of ass
