Are you launching the server with launch.bat or just running the minecraft_server.jar? It needs to be the launch.bat for it to be a modded server.

Try temporarily disabling your firewall while logging in? Sometimes stuff gets blocked without your knowledge, it could be happening here.

Try pressing "o" while in the inventory screen. It's the default button to hide/unhide NEI.

Don't press that update button - it's for Vanilla (normal, unmodded) Minecraft. Tekkit is only built for Minecraft 1.5.2, so you can't currently update it any further than that.

It probably never will. It uses some mods which have stopped updating, mainly Redpower2, which would basically destroy every single world, and take away a massive chunk of content which hasn't been replaced by mods already in Lite (although a lot of the functionality is replicated by mods in Tekkit Main) if removed.

You could indirectly fuel it by using the MJ to create a sugar cane or tree farm if you really wanted to. An automatic supply of charcoal would almost certainly be more efficient if you're willing to put the effort in.

In short, no. 32 bit java won't allow you to. If you can, upgrade to 64bit - otherwise, it's a no go.

I'm pretty sure you can use all the same versions of Tekkit with the new launcher than the old - more, in fact. The only thing lost is Technic, which is different to Tekkit. Just go into the options.

Apparently Tekkit Classic servers show up as 1.3, because that feature was introduced at MC 1.3, so you'll want Tekkit Classic for those servers.

Do you have the log from when the original crash happened? There's not much that anyone can do without logs, and even if they seem fine to you they probably have the problem hidden somewhere inside them.

So... You can get on a server, but then it tells you to update? Or is it giving you a message to update when you try and connect to the server? If it's the second one, tell me exactly what the message it gives you is. No abbreviations or just summing it up, I need to know all the numbers etc. to work out exactly what it is.
