    DNA Craft

Hi guys, this is a suggestion for a fairly simple mod, I will outline the mechanics below. Mainly this idea is for the Tekkit pack, or any pack with advanced tech feel to it. ----------- DNA Craft ----------- Basic concept --------------- DNA Craft would allow a player to experiment with their own DNA in a machine called a DNA Re-sequencer (if you've ever watched Stargate Atlantis then this idea stems from the episode called the Tao of Rodney with some adjustments for Minecraft). Ok, so a player would craft the DNA-R machine, and will be able to manipulate a pattern within the GUI to create certain effects (think a player based enchantment system, not an item based one). There are 5 pieces of DNA available to be changed for each player and 3 sections in each DNA piece. It might be represented by symbols but I will demonstrate with numbers only. 000 000 000 000 000 The first set is what the player would have access to straight away, meaning they have the option of 999 numbers with a lot of different combinations. An example DNA change might be: Speed: 175 000 000 000 000 Night vision: 294 000 000 000 000 Toughness: 942 000 000 000 000 A player would not know these and could experiment, some effects might be good, some bad. DNA patterns can be stored on a data storage crystal that can be slotted in to the DNA-R by the player (recipe involving quartz and redstone). Empty ones can be used to take a snapshot of their default DNA sequence and crystals from the DNA scanner can be placed in the slots. When a player arrives at a positive or negative effect for the first tier it will last 1 Minecraft day (2 at tier 2, 3 at tier 3 etc), at that point the changes will become unstable and will slowly kill the player with a poison like effect. This is because the changes they have made to their DNA will become unstable and lead to death if not reversed. A player can only restore their DNA once half the allotted time has elapsed. Example, tier 1 means a player would need to wait half a MC day before he can revert his/her changes. Tier 3 means a player would need to wait 1 and a half MC days in order to revert to their default DNA (the effect lasts 3 days). The more times they use the DNA re-sequencer the more proficient they get at it and more stable these changes become and so the longer they last. The basic idea is that tier 1 = 1 MC day, tier 5 = 5 MC days. The total amount of DNA changes that can be made at one time is 5 once that tier has been unlocked by many uses of the DNA-R machine. At which point the player can place stored data crystals with the effects they want in the machine and apply the changes. DNA Scanner & Upgrades ---------------------------- What a player can also do is craft a DNA Scanner which is a hand held tool that can be upgraded with Refined Prism Crystals (Quartz, Redstone, Lapis Lazuli) to improve the speed and tier that can be scanned. Tier 1 scanner takes 10 seconds of constant scanning to produce a pattern on a storage crystal and will only produce tier 1 patterns. Players would need a tier 5 prism crystal to scan in 5 seconds and produce a tier 5 pattern. The DNA scanner can be used on other players to create exact copies of someones looks (just appearance not name obviously) with no ill effect, but the main use for it is on the mobs in the world. Effects -------- Scanning a Zombie for example could give you either a positive or a negative pattern, you won't know until you try it. One negative effect would be that you set on fire in daylight like Zombies do. A positive one would be that you have stronger melee push back with your attacks. Scanning a spider and using the pattern you get might give you the ability to fire a web from your hand at a mob to slow it down, or the negative effect of spiders being more attracted to you (spawning more and seeing the player from a greater distance). Scanning an Enderman (a difficult task for any length of time while looking at them) might result in you being able to right click teleport a short distance like the Endermen do. Or be randomly teleported without control while moving around the world (5% chance per tick maybe) which would be a bad idea in caves with big drops or nearby to lava. Scanning a Skeleton might give you the ability to be friendly to and ride spiders in the night, giving you their higher jump ability and ability to climb walls. Or it might just cause you weak bones meaning you take 2x the damage from attacks. Scanning a Squid might give you the ability to breathe underwater or be poisoned by their ink (you remain at 1 heart with a poisoned effect for the duration). Scanning a Pig might allow you to remain fed for that period of time meaning no loss of hunger bar. Or the opposite, speed up your hunger so that the effect of eating food is lessened. Scanning a Cow might allow you to shed leather from your skin giving you the occasional piece of leather. Or make you slower moving for the duration. --------------------------------- That's the basic idea, comments/suggestions/someone to make it is welcome as long as my name is credited somewhere. You would obviously be releasing the mod itself.
  2. Just to point out, m versions of cards are nowhere near their desktop equivalents in performance. Observe: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html Look for the Nvidia 680, thats the desktop version. Its 680m counterpart is 3 tiers down. A tier on that hierarchy is denoted as a noticable upgrade. This is one of the annoying aspects for people who buy a laptop for its graphics processing power thinking they are getting a "680" that it's going to be the same as the desktop version. It's not anywhere close. There is only so much power you can fit in a small form factor like a laptop with its limited air cooling capacity and mobile nature, they are built to be of low power requirement which is why the very idea of a gaming laptop is fallacy and laughable unless you are spending upwards of £1500-2500. You simply are paying for mobility.
  3. I also had this problem I didn't have much of a clue as to where to begin because all the goalposts moved. But it has resulted in me exploring the world much more than if I just went down to level 10 and found a few diamonds to get a philosophers stone up and running and just dupe what I needed from there. The only issue was knowing what to get, my first priority was simply to find the machines that deal with ore processing and work up from there. Once you get a Pulveriser you can create the next tier of metals used in recipes, so this would always be your first goal. When you have an induction smelter you can create a few more and it can replace your Pulveriser if you can generate a lot of sand. Once you have a solid base you can pretty much make a lot of the equipment. Its just knowing what to build for the setup that you want. Rednet controller is frankly a big chunk of awesome. My advice is to watch some Lets Play series for the new Tekkit on Youtube.
  4. You mean when you move your view with the mouse it moves slow? If so press F8
  5. Ahh, found the answer. Google to the rescue! If you go into your modpack folders there is a txt file called options.txt In that file there are two lines... overrideWidth:0 overrideHeight:0 Those control Minecrafts starting resolution. If you want to go to 1280x720 for example you'd put in: overrideWidth:1296 overrideHeight:758 Reason for the extra pixels is to account for the Windowed borders.
  6. Hey guys, I am here to appeal to those of you with medium to low spec machines that have around 4GB RAM minimum and have hard drives rather than SSDs for an experiment. In a test I did with willing patrons on the Technic IRC they agreed their game experience was smoother as a result of this and I just wanted to get your opinions on the same. Basically we are going to see if we can improve gameplay smoothness by moving the launcher to whats known as a RAM disk, that is, a disk drive that exists only in your computers memory. The reason for this is that it's much faster to load things from a RAM disk than a regular Hard Disk, and in some cases is faster than SSDs but the effect would be less pronounced. Below I will link you to a ZIP file, within is everything you need to test this, the instructions to follow are in the README txt file. Before you try it, load up a world you are using and fly around at full speed, take note of any FPS drops (by pressing F3 and looking near the top where it says FPS) and if it feels "smooth". Normally when moving at speed you would experience momentary freezes as the chunks of the world load. Reports are that this is eliminated or at least very minimal running on a RAM disk. Also create a new world, often while the chunks are being written your starting FPS is at a crawl, I am hoping this process will smooth that out too. Please reply with a simple 1-10 of how much of an improvement the performance of the game is for you. Obviously if this is of great benefit to people and creates a smoother experience then it could be an option in the launcher if the Technic team are willing to include it. Otherwise I'm sure those of you that get improved performance would continue to use it and it would at least benefit someone out there. Here is the file as previously mentioned: http://www.mediafire.com/?ajrwi6kcemqoy84 The cmd files within the Tekit folder can be right clicked and opened for editing if you wish to check them. There is nothing untward in this ZIP. I am merely interested in if this will help anyone. Thanks!
  7. How so Amaxter? I have interest in this as well. I normally just use Sizer to give it 720p for recording videos and 1080p for normal playing.
  8. Sounds to me like you put the tekkit texture pack in on its own, it is not a full pack. You have to combine it with the original sphax one of the same size (128x 64x etc). Open the tekkit one and drag the files into the normal sphax one and it will work.
  9. I had this problem on a tekkit server host, since moving to another host haven't had the issue, with the same map files. Since your pc has more memory than the server I moved to I can only assume its the connection or possibly the processing power, minecraft only uses 1 core, so it needs to be running as fast as possible since it matters not how many cores there are.
  10. Nobody is being forced to use 3.1.1, the client is still 3.0.3 on recommended.
  11. I also have this on my server with 3.0.4, however I have changed server and added slightly more RAM 1GB to 1.5GB, so I will let you know if those symptoms desist.
  12. Title: Random Connection Resets Version: 3.0.3/3.0.4 OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Java Version: Java 7 update 5 32-bit & 64bit Description of Problem: Randomly although mostly seems to happen when a chest is opened by my friend we get a java exception connection reset and we both lose connection to the server. The server cannot be contacted by the server list refresh for roughly 15-20 seconds and then is usable again. We used a map from single player Tekkit (not Technic) and I uploaded it.
