Problems with OSX?

Question

Posted

Bear with me here I'm really not that good with this kind of stuff...

I'm using a macbook running osx and whenever I try to run the technic launcher on it it simply says "The java jar file technic launcher could not be launched" any idea what could be causing this? I got the mod to run on a PC fine but I really need it to work on my mac if I'm to get any use out of it :(

Ps here is the logs when I try to launch it:

Okay. I'll admit. I was wrong. At the time I had misinterpreted the lack of Java 7 for Mac. As it turns out, at this time there is no Java 7 for Mac.

You should still be able to run Technic Pack on Snow Leopard. It's not an issue with not having Java 7. If you're having problems running Technic, it's something else.

Thanks for replying confirming that. Hopefully someone will know what the issue is. I have tried to provide as much information as possible here, as requested in the stickies.

The message I get when I try to run the Technic Launcher JAR (downloaded today) reads: "The Java JAR file 'Technic-launcher-latest.jar' could not be launched. Please check the console for possible error messages."

My system information follows:

System Software Overview:

System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)

Kernel Version: Darwin 9.8.0

Boot Volume: Upgrade

Boot Mode: Normal

Guides on the internet say that there should be a line saying "64 bit Kernel and extensions yes/no" telling me if the operating system is running 32 or 64 bit. That line is not present on my system. My processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo, which I have read is capable of 64 bit.

Minecraft displays a warning on far rendering distance, so I believe my Java is 32 bit. However, in Activity Monitor, "Jar Launcher" is the only process with (64 bit) next to it. Everything else is blank in that field (does that mean everything else is 32 bit?). JavaForMacOSX10.5Update4 and JavaForMacOSX10.5Update10 are the files I installed to update Java.

I don't think I have an antivirus program (not actually sure - I didn't set up this laptop). I scanned the applications folder and nothing stood out.

The following is pasted from the console immediately after attempting to run the latest Technic JAR for OSX:

UnsupportedClassVersionError usually means you are running Java 1.6 instead of 1.7

Thank you, but Googling for "Java 1.7 Mac" suggests that it's unreleased for OSX and not going to be released any time soon. The search results point to a developer preview which makes Minecraft stop working, and to something called "open jdk 1.7". Would the latter work? Is it a community response to the stalling of development of Java 7 for OSX?
