AlfieSR Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 (edited) Clicking "Install this modpack" on a private modpack in an attempt to get a completely fresh install of it, and the launcher is just outright ignoring me. The private pack in question is at http://www.technicpack.net/modpack/please-fill-in-this-field.555595 and up until the most recent revision (wherein I added Enchanting Plus to the pack) has functioned perfectly. I uninstalled the pack because I wanted to ensure no loose files were messing with the launcher as it was reporting being unable to extract the zip for the pack - the zip that it downloaded in the cache folder only has half the files. But before I can begin to solve that, I do need to be able to actually re add the pack to my launcher list and it's completely ignoring me. Edited February 6, 2015 by AlfieSR
Discord Moderator plowmanplow Posted February 6, 2015 Discord Moderator Posted February 6, 2015 Keep in mind that the "Install This Modpack" button only copies the URL to the clipboard. You must manually paste that into the search bar in the Launcher for it to be detected there. On a side note, that pack link you provided does not work.

It's at http://www.technicpack.net/modpack/please-fill-in-this-field.555595 Launcher was still refusing to pick up the modpack for a bit but apparently my browser wasn't letting me copy anything for a moment so the .555595 was preventing it from doing anything. I am, however, still getting the error extracting message I was getting before. The zip itself is entirely functional both on my computer and on dropbox, it's only the launcher that appears to be treating it as incomplete. And I've already checked against my own earlier mistakes, the zip is not a disguised rar. Edited February 6, 2015 by AlfieSR
Discord Moderator plowmanplow Posted February 7, 2015 Discord Moderator Posted February 7, 2015 Please do not make multiple threads for the same issue. It makes providing focused support more difficult. As of this post, the API server/service seems to be malfunctioning. Once that is back up I can do a proper analysis. However, if you would post the modpack download link (I would normally get that from your pack metadata) I can take a look.

Discord Moderator plowmanplow Posted February 7, 2015 Discord Moderator Posted February 7, 2015 It is usually a bad idea to distribute the /options.txt file with your pack. This will overwrite the client's local settings when the pack updates. Forge for MC >= 1.6 does not use a /coremods/ folder in any way. All mods belong in or below the /mods/ folder. Resource packs should not be extracted into folders. They should be left as the ZIP files in which they are distributed. Additionally, providing resource packs with the modpack archive is considered bad because they seldom change and clients will have to download them every time the pack updates, and because they significantly bloat your modpack archive (+30M for yours). The /mods/VoxelMods/ folder should not be in your modpack archive. This will overwrite client settings when the pack updates. Most mods which connect to the Applied Energistics API have updated to AE2rv2. You should update to the latest AE2rv2 beta (along with any mods which depend on it like Extra Cells). Many of your mods are quite out of date (Ender IO, NEI, Waila, TConstruct, etc.) which know major issues. Updating would be beneficial. That's as far as I can go until the platform starts working again. You've got a fair number of things to work on until then.

Updating would be beneficial. That's as far as I can go until the platform starts working again. You've got a fair number of things to work on until then. This is a private modpack for literally just me and a friend of mine so It is usually a bad idea to distribute the /options.txt file with your pack. This will overwrite the client's local settings when the pack updates. The /mods/VoxelMods/ folder should not be in your modpack archive. This will overwrite client settings when the pack updates. Are both intentional as it saves him time setting up keybinds. It's his choice, so I've left them in. It's not that bad, is it? Resource packs should not be extracted into folders. They should be left as the ZIP files in which they are distributed. Additionally, providing resource packs with the modpack archive is considered bad because they seldom change and clients will have to download them every time the pack updates, and because they significantly bloat your modpack archive (+30M for yours). I'm only including resource packs when I've changed them in some manner but said friend has yet to download the update in question. I split up the element animation resource pack so that friend could enable or disable certain sound groups at will, I added a couple of images to work with denseores and the projecte resource pack is because they updated to the "original" pack. It's bad but also only for a particular update - none of them will be in any future updates whatsoever unless I've added or changed something in one of them. Most mods which connect to the Applied Energistics API have updated to AE2rv2. You should update to the latest AE2rv2 beta (along with any mods which depend on it like Extra Cells). Completely hadn't noticed this one - I actually updated them a while ago but accidentally undid it and forgot to re-do it. Forge for MC >= 1.6 does not use a /coremods/ folder in any way. All mods belong in or below the /mods/ folder. All appropriate mods had said to use the coremods folder, but I've swapped them over anyway. Many of your mods are quite out of date (Ender IO, NEI, Waila, TConstruct, etc.) which know major issues. Updating would be beneficial. I've updated as many mods as I'm aware are outdated and am currently going through the list for others.
Discord Moderator plowmanplow Posted February 7, 2015 Discord Moderator Posted February 7, 2015 Once you've got a new modpack archive/version up just let me know. As for the points above where you are deviating from the norm, but with specific intent, that is no problem As long as you are aware of the impact/ramifications, go for it.
AlfieSR Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/co2bl2hqpgg9lv7/technicmodpackv21.zip Just realised I forgot to update NEI but I'm not too concerned as it is on the latest recommended version anyway. Also removed legacyjavafixer because I'm on a newer version of Forge that doesn't need it. Hadn't read the announcement properly. It's also on the platform as well Edited February 7, 2015 by AlfieSR
Discord Moderator plowmanplow Posted February 7, 2015 Discord Moderator Posted February 7, 2015 (edited) I've had incompatibility issues when not using the "Latest" version of NEI. The platform doesn't seem to like this file and is failing during the extraction process (likely due to the non-standard characters): /mods/moarperipherals/lua/songs/Comptine D'un Autre Été.nbs Renaming the file to remove the special characters allow the pack to install properly. Edited February 7, 2015 by plowmanplow
AlfieSR Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 I have pushed a new version without the french characters in the name (and at a glance, no other files have bilingual characters though there was a duplicate song entry I deleted) Having pushed the new version, however, I'm getting API access timeout errors. I assume the platform has gone down again?
Discord Moderator plowmanplow Posted February 7, 2015 Discord Moderator Posted February 7, 2015 Yes, it seems to be a bit flaky/overloaded at the moment.
AlfieSR Posted February 7, 2015 Author Posted February 7, 2015 Just managed to get a successful API read and the modpack successfully extracts now. That was.. harder than it needed to be. Thanks for all your help, plowmanplow.
