Skin Part Black Out

Recently I set up a Tekkit Classic server and when I logged on I found that my skin had partially blacked out. I looked in different places online to try and find the solution and the closest I think i have come is getting the Steve skin and putting my skin in the same layout on top, re-downloading that (to my pc) and then going into the mob file and changing the char.png file. That didn't work. Could anyone help?
