Title: Extra low FPS when friends on reasonable FPS

Version: 3.0.3/3.0.4

OS: Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate

Java Version: JRE 7 64 bit

Description of Problem:

I have a house, with a fancy storage system, a lot of machines, 3 reactors and some solar arrays, about 10 or so MFSUs, a few energy links and a few adv. furnaces, macerators, compressors and extractors and then 4 Mass fabricators too. The storage system sorts all my items into around 240 crystal chests. (but this is irrelevant as it was like this before I upgraded the storage room).

If I go away from my house, I get framerates nearing 500+ with all settings put high and a 64x texture pack. If I go near the house, with all settings on low, and default, I get <20fps. My friend in a different country to me (and the server which is within 2 metres of me across gigabit LAN), get's mid hundreds away from this house and around 40-50fps around it.

Why would this be, and how is this?! (My computer is more powerful than his)

Crystal chests show the items inside the chests, somehow I think that 240 chests are a bit too much for your/any PC to handle. Try it with diamond chests.

Well I guessed that would be it too. But as I said, it was like this before I upgraded and it was still normal MC chests. Admittedly, my FPS was a few more, but only about 25fps rather than <20.

(Thanks for super fast reply!)

Here's a few snaps of the storage system.

Almost every single one of the items you see in the pipes, is not actually there. Breaking pipes and replace makes the ones in that pipe disappear entirely. Not fall to the ground or anything.

Completely screwed up pipes...

Machines that are in the main room. Two reactors upstairs and a few energy links, MFSUs and cables around.

what is you're viewing distance at? try setting it lower as this will compensate for the lag you may get from the crystal chests. if not that do exactly painful said use diamond chests because i know drops in massive amounts can cause lag.

Also try to stop all the items in the pipes by stop putting stuff in them, maybe that will stop the lag a bit. It looks like you have A LOT of stuff running through them, and that can't be a good thing.

Well I've muddled around with all the settings a lot. My render distance makes absolutely no difference around the house though usually it sits on far. Also, I left it over night, when I logged back in, all the items in the pipes had disappeared, thankfully, but my framerate is still unplayably low. I get better FPS in BF3 for gods sake! I have the feeling there may be something the tiniest bit dodgy with the drivers installed on this computer as when I built it (a few weeks ago) I got some errors during Windows install which I found random workaraounds. I still don't believe it worked properly though. Everythign else seems to work fine but such low fps in MC?

Away from the house, I get over 200+fps which makes is what I'd expect. I mean, when I was fiddling with settings, on lowest, I saw the framerate go over 775fps in the same world. Within about 50 blocks of the house I was still getting over a 100 or so, I could see some of the chests, another few blocks and it just instantly drops to around 20fps.

Last thing I can suggest to help with the problem is maybe changing it to a Red Power 2 based system with Sortingmachines and Pneumatic Tubeing. Maybe the SMP code of BC (Maybe even SSP) pipes isn't up to scratch to sort that much info at once. I can remember a Plugin which would let you see what was Ticking a lot on your server but can't remember the name at the moment. Will look it up in the near future.

Thanks. For now I have decided to move house... 2km away. Tranferring power across BC pipes. Haha! This is going to be fun. I would rather not use RP2 for the sorting as it's overly complicated and not as good for big storage rooms. It works for small storage rooms with only a few systems, but when you've got about 60 diamond pipes, coverting to RP2 is OTT complicated.

I might have a solution to your problem. I was actually having the same problem, but my frames did not drop as low as yours. Mine went from about 400+ to about 64, but anyway it has to do with sounds. They cause alot of lag when you are going in and out of the sound range. I would try getting rid of the sounds by deleting the files in your sounds folder, but remember to back up your .technicpack folder first. I hope this helps.
