Very Frustrated NEWB

Question

Posted

Hi all,

I am having quite a bit of difficulty getting this running. I have had a server running for ages here and my kids and I play regularly.

The most recent incantation is server and client versions 1.1 (both Java not the exe), both have been working fine in plain vanilla mode.

I have followed the destructions religiously, downgrading the client to 1.0, but it will not connect to the server, I presume it is because I am running minecraft_server.jar version 1.1

I am unable to find a way to downgrade my server to 1.0, the downgrade apps I have located so far all seem to be used for downgrading the client, they all want the .minecraft folder which of courdse does not exist on the server.

Can any of you guys tell me what I am missing, or point me in the direction of a big dummies guide to getting a 1.1 version server working with the Technic mods.

Thanks in advance,

A very old and currently bedraggled Grey Wolf

If you are trying to run a Tekkit server the download from this site has all of the basics. Tekkit is based off of Bukkit which has only recently been ported to MC1.1 with just a handful of mods supported. Hopefully soon that will change.

Thanks for the reply Blacktooth,

I have been following the instructions and using the downloads from here... http://technicpack.net/tekkit/

but as I said it just wont work. I can run the client on a local worrld and it seems to work fine. But when I try to connect to the server it just seems to hang at the logging in screen, then crashed with Disconnected by Server, took to long to log in.

The console got as far as....

(MAtmos : INFO) Expansion interactions_environments.xrl loaded

(MAtmos : INFO) Expansion interactions_extras.xrl loaded

(MAtmos : INFO) Expansion interactions_weopons.xrl loaded

(MAtmos : INFO) Expansion interactions_database.xrl loaded

No extra errors after it fails though, and

Server end error is...

[iNFO] Disconnecting /192.168.100.105:53640: took too long to log in

As I said, I have downgraded the 1.1 client as per instructions, and the client works stand alone, but I have only the latest server, which is 1.1, and i cannot find a way to downgrade the server. So either I am missing a step, doing a step wrong, or it does actually need server version 1.0

I am at a loss so far :)

Cheers

Greywolf

[Edit]

The server actually runs obviously, just cant connect to it...

Ok, so now I have found a 1.0 server, installed the mod, run the server and so far so good.

Run the client and it connects ok, soon as I grab a block in creative more it dies.

At a guess, the server still not installed correctly.

Here is what I did to the server...

Did a clean 1.0 install

Downloaded and installed Tekkit 1.1.4 beta for minecraft 1.0 Server 7z

Unzipped it and ran the launcher, and the server ran but with no gui.

However!!!

Looking at a youtube clip showing how to install an older version, it had an additional step where as well as the server launch,

it had some extra jar classess that had to be added to the minecraft_server.jar

This step seems to be ommitted by me, as it is not present in the tekkit server download from the previously mentioned link

Sooooo, what am I doing wrong this time :)

To install/run the server:

Download http://sa-technic.googlecode.com/files/Tekkit_Server_1.1.4.7z

Unzip it somewhere out of the way.

execute launch.bat

To install/run the client:

Backup your .minecraft folder

Delete your .minecraft folder

Run Minecraft and let it update

Exit Minecraft

Download http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/800346-tool-mcnostalgia-202/

Run MCNostalgia and change your version to 1.0.0

Run Minecraft (Don't update) and make sure it is running ok and is at 1.0.0

Backup your .minecraft folder (So you don't have to repeat the previous step if something goes wrong, and you have a spare 1.0.0)

Download http://sa-technic.googlecode.com/files/Tekkit_Client_1.1.4.7z

Unzip that somewhere

Execute Technic_Installer.jar

Just hit Next to install to .minecraft

Choose your optional mods, and it install

Run Minecraft (don't update)

connect to server

Profit

A suggestion: Try using http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/540449-minecraft-profile-manager/ A wonderful program that will allow you handle several different kinds of client/SSP installs with minimal trouble. Each install has it's own directory, but can be run from a single simple interface. Very handy, and makes some of the above steps easier to handle or obsolete.

OK, thank you yet again, now I am able to run server and client, connect, but still when I try to use any block it crashes out.

Server error is...

java.lang.indexoutofboundsexceptoin: Index 74, Size 45

It seems like the object list I have on the client, is different to that on the server???

Any other suggestions, I have (i think) followed your instructions exactly.

Cheers

I don't have any definite answer to be honest. Is it a client crash? Maybe try fiddling with the memory options for the client or server, and try Java 7 if you aren't already. I really don't know.

I think you may have one of the basic assumptions wrong.

Tekkit server does NOT need minecraft_server.jar of any version, as it is a server in itself (namely, Bukkit). As such, you don't run the minecraft_server.jar, or even place it anywhere near the Tekkit server installation at all. You just unzip the Tekkit server somewhere, and run the conveniently provided launch.bat
