Minnesota Jeff Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Greeting Technic Community, I come from the planet... wait...what? Never mind... As the title says Im a Server Newbie. I pay for the 1Gb Dirt Plan on Minespan.com so a couple friends and my brother can bomb around together and see what sort of trouble we can get into in Minecraft and help each other when needed etc. My friend and I have been trying to get the generic world to take the Terra Loaded mod pack. I've uploaded, through a connection to my server, via FileZilla. The files seemingly upload with no errors. Also we have put the Terra Loaded files into (we think) the proper folders on our computers. Im told by a Minespan staff member that they at Minespan can not help with the installation of mods to their server. And that what I should do is come to the forums here and try to get some assistance. I know there is some folks that are going to tell me upload this UTP or this thing or that thing to some file website and post a link. Well that is how new to all this I am. Although my friend can assist me with getting that information into the right place and posting a link, I think. Im really just trying to find some help with the first steps in perhaps, preparation and what to do to be sure all the right files are in the right place. I have looked for several days on the net and YouTube and found nothing where Minespan and mods are concerned. Anyone able to help me to understand how to deal with a server on the end user side of things? Because man, I tell yah, Minecraft on that server is the pits without some mods, recipes, NEI etc.. P.S. In not a complete and total newbie where Minecraft is concerned. I have dealt with updating mods for my stand alone worlds that I log into via FTB Launcher playing on Direwolf20's mod pack. I know, I know, that sort of thing don't make me any where near an expert and any of this. P.S.S. On a side note, I was told by the Minespan staff that I had to log into my server via the Technic Launcher to use the Technic Mods on my server. Problem with that is when I could (because for some reason now I don't find a play button anywhere) I would have to log into 1.6.4 for some reason well when I get into where I can go into Multiplayer and add my server it attempts a link but tells me my Minecraft version is out of date and to use at least 1.8.3. If there is a way to get the Technic Launcher to use 1.8.3, (which I believe the Terra Loaded is 1.7.10, which would still result in the same issue) that might be a step in a theoretical right direction. daytimepanther Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 I have setup and managed multiple servers along with 2 servers I'm currently running now so I can help you out! Lets start from scratch. I'm going to assume you know how to use an FTP client to manage the files on your server. I want you to delete everything on your server so we can start from the basics. I looked and I see that Minespan is using Multicraft as a control panel. Now go to the main portion of the panel (where you can start and stop the server) and you should see a drop-down menu under world that allows you to change what jar the server is launching with. If you do not see Forge 1.7.10 in the list, choose the option that says something similar to "Custom Server". When you select this it should (depending on how Minespan set it up) change the value in the the text field "JAR File" to "custom_server.jar". If it doesn't do that, type that in including the .jar on the end and click save. Now go back to your FTP client and if it is not already there, create a folder named "jar". What you will do is place the Forge jar, Minecraft server jar, and the libraries for Forge into this folder. I'm not sure what modpack you are talking about specifically so could you link me to it and I can continue helping you out. Minnesota Jeff 1 Quote
Minnesota Jeff Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Thanks Panther. I appreciate your time. And I will get to work doing as you said. I'll have a link posted here soon. Im working overnights the next couple days so apologies for the length of time it may take me to get back to you. Quote
Minnesota Jeff Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 OK Panther, Apologies I was erroneous in the name of the pack I was looking to use on my server. Its in fact named Terra Modded. Terra Modded If after looking at this and you think that there might be a better mod please feel free to suggest better. Quote
Minnesota Jeff Posted May 6, 2015 Author Posted May 6, 2015 Panther, There is a jar folder in my server and it currently has these .jar files in it: craftbukkit-1.8.1-20150304a.jar forge-1.7.10-10.13.2.1401-1719ls-installer.jar minecraft_server-1.8.4.jar minecraft_server.jar It seems to me that there maybe a conflict here but I cant be certain of that because I just don't know enough about this. daytimepanther Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 All of those jar files should not be in the jar folder. Delete those jar files and download the server for the Terra Modded pack. I'm assuming you have already done this but if you haven't click "Server Download" on the modpack page. When you open the zip file that was downloaded you should see a libraries folder, a boot_this.jar and a minecraft_server.1.7.10.jar in the folder. Rename boot_this.jar to custom_server.jar to match what I said in my first post. Now upload the libraries folder, custom_server.jar, and minecraft_server.1.7.10.jar to the jar folder on your server. You should now be able to start the server. It should error out and tell you to agree to the EULA. Open eula.txt on your ftp server and change the part that says false to true. Now launch the server again and you should see that several files were created including a mods folder. Now all you have to do is stop the server and copy the mods, config, and scripts folder over to the ftp server and you should be all set. Look in the console for errors. You can usually search google for any errors and find an answer. Minnesota Jeff 1 Quote
