Simple Noob question (I hope)

As suggested by the FAQ, I consult you oh forum!

I want to join an online server that is using the Tekkit server.

When I try to play my friend's server it tells me I need to install the minecraft forge mod. Why am I not pestering a forum related to that? Not knowing what it was and asking for a direct link I was told to google Tekkit so here I am.

Is there anything standard I should be installing in this situation? I see that I can download the tekkit server but somehow that does not seem the right answer in this situation.

Any helpful responses would be appreciated, thanks!

P.S. if this is the wrong subforum, please don't feel shy to move this thread or tell me where I should instead be posting!

Download the Technic launcher from the website front page, from within it select the Tekkit pack in the dropdown on the top left. It will install all the mods you require to play on the server.
