Ram Allocation Issue

32 bit systems CANNOT make use of that much ram. You need to upgrade to a 64 bit OS or you will never ever get the full potential of your RAM. You are sabotaging yourself, this has nothing to do with the launcher.

Also as an added note, minecraft runs worse with more ram allocated. It's actually better to keep it at 1gig or under.

It doesn't matter, currently something has went wrong with the Technic pack. Trying to set an allocation spot closes the launcher. Log also show md5 mismatches as well.

You may just be confused. The allocation of ram sets the MAX amount of ram. You should never actually have to use that much. If it's running correctly it should be saying that you are using around that number 247MB and it should be a percent of 1GB.

The problem is, if you try to allocate more RAM than the system has available to allocate it defaults to 256M.
