'Checking Older Version' quickly shows up and goes away when opening .exe

Operating System: Windows 7

Java Version: 7 update 4

Antivirus Program: McAfee

Description of Problem:

What happens is when I open the techniclauncher.exe it says it downloads %100 (meanwhile the green bar is only a third of the way). The box that originally pops up then disappears.

If I try using the launcher again it just basically puts up the box again saying 'Checking Older Version' for an instant then it goes away.

Also, I have tried just opening the technic-laucher.jar directly and it basically just sticks the technic logo on my screen and gets in the way of everything until I log out.

I have also tried changing the 'Path' Environment Variable.

Please help!

The firewall isn't the problem, as I understand it. McAfee itself is the problem.

Well I don't want to necessarily uninstall something I payed for...

If it isn't the problem (which is wholly possible, I don't claim infallibility) then you can just reinstall it.

Also you should never, ever pay for AV protection. Look into Avast!.

Then it's McAfee. Look into adding an exception for the launcher, and probably also Minecraft and Java.
