0 Jay? Posted July 30, 2012 Posted July 30, 2012 Are you on a mac or windows? do you have any special characters in your PC username? dashes or colons or things like that?
0 evbroman Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 Windows and my username doesn't have any dashes or anything like that just letters and numbers
0 Jay? Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Okay, navigate to your techniclauncher folder and copy the directory location for me.
0 evbroman Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 is this it?... C:\Users\Evan Cameron\AppData\Roaming\.techniclauncher
0 Jay? Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 Hm. have you tried the standard uninstall/reinstall routine?
0 evbroman Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 no.. but it is messed up when trying to open the launcher it doesnt even say downloading launcher it just says checking launcher in that tiny window
0 Jay? Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 okay, to do a manual reinstall, go to user/appdata/roaming/and delete the whole .techniclauncher folder. You may want to delete and redownload the launcher exe as well.
0 evbroman Posted July 31, 2012 Author Posted July 31, 2012 it got to the point when it said running launcher and then the box with illegal characters in path opened up again
0 Torezu Posted July 31, 2012 Posted July 31, 2012 What, out of curiosity, is the path for your copy of Java? It's usually something like C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin - that may be the source of the illegal character.
0 evbroman Posted August 2, 2012 Author Posted August 2, 2012 C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin I CANT UPDATE IT, IT WONT WORK.... PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO UPDATE THE JAVA TO JRE7 IT KEEPS SAYING I AM USING JRE6 EVEN THOUGH I HAVE INSTALLED IT
0 Jay? Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Manually delete the whole JRE6 folder and download java fresh.
0 EzioA Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Uninstall java from your Programs & Features menu in control panel. Download offline java for your OS. Install.
0 evbroman Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 ok i am doing it right now thx everyone who helped me with this I am still not sure it works but thx it......... STILL DOESNT WORK can someone email me their .techniclauncher folder for me to use please? It might work
0 Torezu Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 Yeah, I merged 5 posts in a row. Don't spam your own thread. There's an edit button for a reason. Oh, and no, no one's going to email you their .techniclauncher folder, even if it were entirely legal, which I'm pretty sure it's not, as there are Minecraft files in there.
0 evbroman Posted August 5, 2012 Author Posted August 5, 2012 ok... I am not a hacker i just want to play tekkit!!!!!!!!!!! does anyone know a solution to this problem?
0 Torezu Posted August 5, 2012 Posted August 5, 2012 ok... I am not a hacker i just want to play tekkit!!!!!!!!!!! does anyone know a solution to this problem? Where did I say you were a hacker? I was responding to your question by informing you that it's illegal because it contains Minecraft files, which you are not allowed to distribute. And really, reporting me? It doesn't do you much good.
0 I <3 yogscast Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 hi i have the same problem. how would i get the illegal character out so i can play tekkit. i really love this game!
0 evbroman Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 sry about that i was just frustrated... could u help me with getting it to work though because i REALLY want to play tekkit right now but it says 'unhandled exception has occured' and 'illegal characters in path' Out of interest does anyone know how to acces the machine.config file so i can turn JIT debugging on so it deals with problem
0 Torezu Posted August 6, 2012 Posted August 6, 2012 could u help me with getting it to work though because i REALLY want to play tekkit right now but it says 'unhandled exception has occured' and 'illegal characters in path' Are you still using JDK 7? You want to get rid of that, unless you're programming in Java, and use JRE 7. Get the one to match your OS bit version (32- or 64-bit).
0 evbroman Posted August 6, 2012 Author Posted August 6, 2012 no i am using jre 7 update five (jre7u5) i was using jdk before though
0 Filindel Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 I'm having this same problem. I use 64-bit W7 and the latest Java. I have tried reinstalling both the Launcher and Java, but I'm still having this issue. My Windows username doesn't have anything but letters in it, so it shouldn't be the cause for this problem.
0 Billybobjoey1234 Posted August 9, 2012 Posted August 9, 2012 This is probably a stupid idea but...try deleting the lastlogin file from .technuclauncher? It's a dumb idea but, hey, who knows.
