what i do is i pump all my lava in the a silo down to bedrock with the redpower pump so i have it all in one location then i just use the buildcraft pump to get it to my geo gen. I put green lightblocks down the side ever 5 blocks so that i know how much i left. red light blocks at layer 10 gives me the low lava warning so i just go find another pool and refill it
