Can't connect to ANY server

I keep getting this error

"Internal exception: java.netSocketException: Connection Reset"

Whenever I try to connect to a server.  What do I do?  I'm starting to get ticked off, because I can no longer play on my singleplayer world (because of another bug) and now I can't start fresh with multiplayer.  Any help would be appreciated to an incomprehensible and limitless extent.  Thanks in advance!

This is my first time trying to connect to a server on the new version of tekkit.  I will try the suggested steps and get back to you.  Thanks!

I tried all of these things, and none worked.  Additional help would be appreciated!
