Launcher won't open

Java Version: Java 7 update 5 (64-bit)

Antivirus Program: Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes

Description of Problem:

This problem has been persistent since first getting the launcher. I've had several people show me the FAQ and I do everything it tells me to and still the same problem. I had nortan before and removed it from my computer just so I can play this and still no go. I'll double click the launch, "checking launcher version" will pop up with an empty loading bar and disappear after about a second and that's it.

I have a 64 bit system and I have Java 7 for 64-bit systems and when I look into the folder I see the jar plain as day.

He was asking if you had tried running the .jar instead of the .exe - have you? Also, stop triple-posting.

I had no idea how to run a .jar. After clumsily clicking around I finally figured out what that meant. I'm not a tech person. I guess this is user error. Sorry for wasting your time, I can get it to run now through the .jar.

Can someone post simple instructions on how to run the .jar?

Find the .jar

Right click the .jar

find the "open with" option and hover over it.

Find the "choose default program" option.

Click that option with your HAMFIST!

Click browse in the window that pops up.

Find Java Platform (SE) binary.

Use your HAMFIST to click that as well!

Press the ok button

Receive technic.

Did you download it with IE? That can cause problems. Also, if you have WinRAR installed and have it linked to .jar files, issues can arise there. Need more information.

I used Firefox, but I do have WinRAR. Should I try to uninstall it?

Edit: Odd, I created a new Windows user and downloaded the Launcher. The launcher itself doesn't work, but I can run the .jar now.

I would try removing WinRAR, rebooting, and running the launcher again. Unless you're satisfied with being able to run the .jar only for now.
