Antivirus Program: before: AVG free Now: avast free, i changed antivirus neither work.

Description of Problem:

I was told to make a new thread because my problem is apparently so far unique. After the shortcut is clicked, whether on .exe or .jar, the launcher begins to start up as normal, it gets to the logo splash screen and stops there, the screen is permanently there until ended in task manager. I first had the cannot connect to minecraft.net bug but that changed to this after i restarted my router. i have tried:

Redownloading launcher,

Redownloading .techniclauncher in %appdata%

rebooting pc

redownloading java

updating java

downgrading java

allowing through firewall

turning off antivirus and firewall and both at a time.

shouting

punching a pillow

suffocating in my own misery

Thanks again, new problem, i'm trying all the solutions, the java 6 thing first but it says this: jre-6u34-windows-x64.exe is not a valid win32 application. It says on the oracle website that this means i am trying to install a 64 bit item onto a 32 bit pc, this is not true, i am installing the correct version on the correct machine (installing 64 bit onto a 64 bit pc) so i have no idea what it's talking about! please help...again!

I've experienced the same issue with launcher and v7 of java... just roll back to v6 update 33 and all is fine. i guess it will take some time to fix this kind of issues... 2 things, first of all uninstall every trace of java7 from the pc, get the 6.33 from the download page of java then reinstall. before starting the launcher save your worlds by moving the folders to unother place then erease the .thecnicLauncher folder, start the launcher and hopefully it will work. didi it in my case. hope it will help.

hahahaha funny, you used about every single political term there is. i'm not using an old launcher as far as i know. no java updates work, my error report talks about mirrors not getting where they need or something, as i said my internet cable is damaged we discovered, the dudes are fixing it soon so i will try again when it's fixed. I still only have about 0.5mb/s of broadband though anyway. :P

That's a very crappy ISP, then. (The crappiest you get here is ~5Mb/s [i keep raging on this, Mb = Megabit (as in internet speed), MB = Megabyte (as in, storage)])

Is it a laptop or a PC? (If I am being ignorant, forgive me as I skimmed through the thread)

If it's a laptop, try going to another place with faster wifi, and see if that works.

If it's a PC, get a better internet, OR, try booting a live cd of Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin <- The instructions on how to make the LiveCD, follow them up to step 5, and press "Try ubuntu" on the menu.) and manually install Java and see if that works there. If it does, then you have to reinstall your operating system.

As to the laptop wifi thing, if it doesn't work, try what I said up here. ^

yeah i haven't had time to carry to a friends house . And EzioA, i have the most on offer here at the moment from any isp, No fibre optics are available either. The exchange receives 24mb/s, that is then split many times, there is then a long inefficient of about 3 miles to my tiny unwanted, rejected, throwback of a village that i call my home. That is how i get my cruddy speed. There is a slight possibility that we may be able to swap cables to the exchange in another village near here with 8mb/s. Also, i understood nothing. Are you sure this will work? Have you tried it? I don't really want to reinstall my OS either, too much hassle, as i have nothing to back ny pc up onto and it will take hours, or at least until i know that's the only solution. I know I am not really helping my self though. Can anyone explain to me why my computer is refusing to start the program? I know it is because of mirrors but what is causing it?

I have not seen this solution brought up, so try allowing tekkit through your firewall, and adding it to the safe programs list of your antivirus, if you do not know how to allow it through your firewall check this out:

I can say I tried it, I booted into a live cd of Ubuntu (LiveCD = operating system ON THE CD. no hard drive shit required)

and installed java, and it works fine. (For me, but it works fine on my regular OS (Ubuntu ) anyways.

i may have an idea for how to fix it, because the files are not being downloaded, if someone could just upload their .technicluancher folder from their %appdata% it might work instead of making the exe file do that. hope this helps cause i have this problem too =)

well thats good then, that means it isnt yours or my computer but the mirrors that it is downloading from playing up. it may be if you are trying to download from somewhere other than where the server is hosted. if thats the case hopefully the devs will fix it eventually.

ok i got some bad/good news about this. the bad news is it isnt to to with the download but rather with your computer. (i know this cause i just got a new computer which it now works on) the good news is you know how to fix it...if your that desperate.

I have a similar problem with tekkit. I click the technic launcher and the little loading thingy shows then the Logo screen and freezes. I need help as well. I put up a bug report in the tekkit bug report forum if anyone wants to look at that.
