1st Time Download failed.

Launcher Version: 1.0.1.3 (i just downloaded from main site but on the description it says its 1.0.1.0, but in the log its 1.0.1.3)

Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium; Service Pack2

Java Version: Version 7 Update 6 (i re-downloaded java right before downloading the launcher)

Antivirus Program: Avast! AV

Description of Problem:

I've recently downloaded this to my computer for the first time, and when i started it up all i got was 'Checking Launcher Version...' and a Dialog Box that says theres an unhandled exception

Have you tried running the .jar version of the launcher? Vista and the .exe version may not get along well.

i did the .exe and .jar both do the same thing

Ok, so I finally after about 4-5 hours of playing around with it and looking around on forums have gotten past the "Checking Launcher Version" box, and gotten to the Technic Launcher. i select Tekkit. and it starts downloading it but like between 5-20% it says 'Download Failed' any idea why im getting this one

P.S: what i'm talking about is when you select which mod pack to open with and above it it says " % Minecraft.jar" and it can't download any mod pack at all, not just tekkit

your anitivirus is blocking it, disable it

i disabled both my antivirus and my firewall and it went to about average of 15-30% download of minecraft.jar and it fails... so any other solutions i can try?
