Tekkit Suddenly Super Laggy

Question

Title: Tekkit Suddenly Super Laggy

Version: 3.1.2

OS: Window 7 Home Premium / x32 / 3GB RAM / 2.56 GHz / i5

Java Version: Java Runtime 7 (Update 5)

Description of Problem:

I run a tekkit server for me and my friend and generally my laptop can handle it even with Google Chrome running at the same time.

Tekkit was working fine until yesterday.

Since then, my tekkit has been unbearably laggy and can't seem to find out why.

My Optifine are the same as before and been using Sphax x64/x128.

I have enough RAM because 500MB are allocated and it only uses about 300MB.

My Optifine setting and texture pack worked fine before.

Turning off Natural Textures helped a lot but it is still so laggy

0.5GiB ram doesn't seem enough. I'm hosting similar server as you (for 1-2 players) and even when nobody is there it uses over 0.6GiB. I really think that windows runs out of memory and start swapping to hardrive.. (MC with HD texture pack should have 1.5-2GiB, server's recommended minimum is around 1GiB and chrome can easily use tens [with flash and java even hundreds] of MiB for every tab)

btw runnig bukkit with 512MiB produces this:

2012-09-11 12:06:16 [WARNING] **** NOT ENOUGH RAM!

2012-09-11 12:06:16 [WARNING] To start the server with more ram, launch it as "java -Xmx1024M -Xms1024M -jar minecraft_server.jar"

I had this issue as well. Hosted several servers, and after a while they all jump up to 100% CPU usage, only sending a single chunk to a connected client every 10-30 seconds (2.6 ghz, 4 cores)

only solution i could figure out was to delete the world and start fresh.

First time it happened was when i updated a world to 3.1

takes a while usually for the server to get so laggy, but it happened once on a BRAND new world.

keep in mind this is with no bukkit plugins or anything, just vanilla tekkit server fresh downloaded and extracted from the website.
